A New Interpretative Basis for the High Performance GMAW Process

Numerous GMAW processes have appeared for one-pass welding of medium to high thickness. This concept originated in the 1980s with T.I.M.E. technique and 1990s 2000s saw emergence Rapid Arc, Melt Buried Arc techniques. These did not include any special control features, but rather parameter combinations improve bead geometry. A new interpretation factors that are critical achieving performance (penetration) is presented herein. Tests a voltage controlled power source inductance process were conducted on bead-on-plate speed videography. Later, validation tests butt joints, developed, without groove AISI 1020, 3/8” thick steel plates.
